Wave Academy Surf School · El Médano, Tenerife
1. Activity information
Wave Academy Surf School, operated by Barbora Ovsikova, offers surf lessons adapted to each participant’s age, experience and abilities. Lessons include instruction and practice on land, an explanation of safety rules and supervised practice in the water.
The activity takes place mainly at Playa La Jaquita and Playa El Salado, El Médano, Tenerife. The specific location, time, duration, final price including taxes, language, number of participants and equipment included are communicated in the lesson information and booking confirmation.
The activity may be adapted, postponed or cancelled because of weather, sea conditions or safety considerations.
2. Risks of surfing
Surfing takes place in a changing natural environment and involves risks that cannot be completely eliminated, even with supervision and safety instructions.
These include falls and impacts with the board, waves or seabed; collisions with other surfers or swimmers; currents, accidental submersion and the risk of drowning; injuries when entering or leaving the water; abrasions and muscle injuries; fatigue, sun exposure, dehydration, heat or cold; contact with marine organisms and unexpected changes in sea or wind conditions.
3. Conditions of participation
Before the lesson, each participant must state whether they can swim and disclose any previous experience of near-drowning or panic in the water, as well as any injury, limitation or health condition relevant to their safety. This information may be shared privately with the instructor.
The school will assess the conditions of participation and may adapt or restrict the activity where necessary for safety reasons.
4. Safety rules and measures
Participants must follow the instructors’ directions, stay within the designated area, respect surfing distances and priority rules, and use the board, leash and protective equipment correctly.
Before entering the water, entry and exit procedures, falling techniques, how to finish a wave, head protection, currents and emergency signals are explained and practised. Do not dive headfirst into the water or deliberately release the board towards other people.
Participants must immediately report fear, pain, fatigue or any difficulty and notify the instructor before leaving the practice area. Other beach users, the natural environment and marine wildlife must be respected.
5. Changing conditions and emergencies
Wave Academy assesses sea and weather conditions before and during the lesson. For safety reasons, it may change the time, location or course of the session, or suspend it. If instructed to return to shore, participants must immediately follow the instructor’s signals and directions.
In the event of an accident or emergency, the activity is stopped, the group is kept safe and assistance is requested by calling 112 where appropriate.

Wave Academy Surf School has held public liability insurance with Zurich Insurance Europe AG since November 2024, policy no. 00000141791939, renewed annually.
